16 de jul. de 2014 · At some point I snatched up a copy of Mark Lanegan’s “The Winding Sheet” and just as rapidly discarded it given, at the time, my tastes were pushing further and further into the territory of Swans, Throbbing Gristle, Sonic Youth at their most caustic and had little space for Lanegan’s sparser and more country-influenced take on rock.

4 de abr. de 2009 · The Winding Sheet ha solo il grande svantaggio, come del resto chi l’ha ispirato, di non essere un album conosciuto ai più. Un vero peccato perché è una perla indimenticabile, come lo saranno altri lavori solisti di Lanegan come Whiskey for the holy ghost (1994) e Scramps at midnight (1998), che meriterebbe maggiore spazio e notorietà.

4 de feb. de 2012 · The roots of The Winding Sheet lay in a never fulfilled project between Lanegan, Screaming Trees’ drummer Mike Pickerel, and Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic that began in late 1989. Why the project fell apart is hard to say. Nirvana had just released the Blew EP, and the band was over five months from beginning work on Nevermind.
The song was selected partly as a tribute to Lanegan. “Kurt looked up to Lanegan,” says Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. “The Winding Sheet was a huge influence on our Unplugged thing.”8. Lanegan and Cobain would end up being two of the most influential voices in the northwest music scene.
