From the catchy opener “There She Goes Again” to the hit single “Someday Someway” (which was also a hit for the late Robert Gordon) to gentler songs like “Mary Anne” and “Not For Me,” there’s not a bad tune in the bunch.

I see the tapes of that now and I think, ‘This is a little too polished, almost’” Forgive a hack for saying so, but I mostly agree. “Our Town” may be my favorite song you ever did, and I feel like Mary Jean hews very close to that pop model over the entire record. It just seems to “breathe” so well.

  7. 15 de ago. de 2000 · Ambivalent. That's how I'd describe my feelings about Marshall Crenshaw after hearing Life's Too Short. Now, after This Is Easy - purportedly the best he has to offer - I'm swaying more in his favour, but I'm still not wholly convinced. On the plus side is Crenshaw's devotion to the music he initially heard through the record buying habits of older relatives.
