In a case of mistaken identity, a harmless New York advertising man, Roger Thornhill, becomes the target of foreign agents. After trying to kill him they frame him for murder. He escapes the police net by boarding a train bound for Chicago. On the train he meets beautiful, mysterious blonde, Eve Kendall, who helps him escape.

North by Northwest came into existence when Hitchcock and writer Ernest Lehman hit a brick wall while working on the nautical thriller, The Wreck of the Mary Deare (1959). They messed around for a few weeks while telling the studio the project was going great until one day Lehman thought of creating a pure Hitchcock film.

North by Northwest became the sixth highest-grossing film on 1959 and would eventually generate a healthy domestic box office return of $13,275,000. In 1995, it became the fourth Hitchcock film to be selected for preservation by the United States National Film Preservation Board and remains one of the most popular Hitchcock films with cinema audiences.
