I’ve been a Pere Ubu fan for over 30 years, having first been intrigued by their ‘comeback’ album The Tenement Year.I’ve written about Ubu more than any other band, and have seen them play live more than anyone else, with the exception of Cardiacs and the Sun Ra Arkestra.

26 de may. de 2023 · Influential art rockers Pere Ubu emerged in 1975 from the ashes of Cleveland proto-punk legends Rocket from the Tombs. Their industrial-strength sound on early masterpiece Dub Housing was characterized by unruly garage riffs, dissonantly haunting synthesizer gurgles, and, most enduringly, singer/lyricist David Thomas’ seemingly extemporaneous absurdist yelps.
Pere Ubu’s music exploited new technology, and in the 1990s the band released hybrid CD-ROMs that blended music, video, and text. Signing with smaller record labels seemed to inspire the group, and Ray Gun Suitcase (1995) and Pennsylvania (1998) were viewed by many as worthy additions to the band’s critically acclaimed oeuvre.Later albums included St. Arkansas (2002); Long Live Père Ubu!
