She was the daughter of actor Jerry Van Dyke and niece of the actor Dick Van Dyke. Also she was a cousin once removed of Shane Van Dyke.

Van Dyke was a moderately known adult film actress at the time, and the daughter of "Coach" actor Jerry Van Dyke. Nance and his new love interest hit it off and were married in 1991. Van Dyke soon relapsed and began abusing alcohol again, however.
