William Huskisson was born at Birch Moreton Court, Warwickshire on 11th March 1770. After a private education in England he was sent to Paris to live with his uncle, Dr. Gem, the physician to the British Embassy. By 1790 Huskisson was asked by Lord Gower, the British Ambassador in France, to become his private secretary.
Huskisson had previously, with Canning, opposed the bank-note bill, 11 Dec. 1812, the joint paymastership of the forces, 8 Mar. 1813, and supported Catholic relief throughout the session. He also voted for Christian missions to India, 22 June. The summer of 1813 brought the corn trade into politics.
