The Looming Tower takes its title from a verse of the Koran – one that was recited by Osama bin Laden during the weeks before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In a videotaped speech that was found on an al-Qaeda member’s computer in Hamburg, bin Laden repeatedly quoted the following verse: “Wherever you are, death will find you, even if you are in looming towers” (p. 395).
