First of all, the most astute of you will know that a league is a unit of distance, not depth. So when they say The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues, it should really be The Phantom From 10,000 Fathoms.
The Phantom is not really a phantom as it is very easily scene and makes no effort to disguise itself. As far as 10,000 Leagues goes (30,000) miles, it's more like the Phantom from 50 feet. The only other creature we see is a mutated turtle.
