  4. S. Karg-Elert: Sonata Appassionata for solo flute (Op. 140) in F sharp minor was written in 1917 and dedicated to his fellow flutist Carl Bartuschat. They both were members of the regimental band where Sigfrid Karg-Elert played oboe from 1917 till 1919. During that period young composer wrote seven pieces for flute, inspired by Carl's fascination with Boehm's flute capabilities.

Karg-Elert composed over 250 pieces for organ, 100 pieces for the harmonium d'art (developed by French instrument-maker Mustel), numerous chamber works, and he completed several theoretical works.
