Queen se formó en 1971. En 1973 firmaron su primer contrato para grabar con EMI. Ese mismo año, lanzaron su álbum debut, Queen, y tuvieron su primera gran gira. En 1974 lanzaron Queen II e hicieron su primera gira como banda principal.
¿Quién es Queen? En la Inglaterra de finales de los 60, Beatles y Rolling Stones seguían siendo los amos del cotarro, pero ya empezaban a sonar grupos con sonidos apartados del beat o del rock and roll más standard (Pink Floyd, Status Quo...).
Mercury tocó el piano en muchas canciones de Queen, incluyendo «Killer Queen», «Bohemian Rhapsody», «Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy», «We Are the Champions», «Somebody to Love» y «Don't Stop Me Now».
