Contessina"s parents were Alessandro di Sozzo Bardi, count of Vernio, and Cammilla Pannochieschi, daughter of Raniero di Guido Pannochieschi, count of Elci. Like Giovanni"s marriage to Piccarda, this marriage brought noble connections to the common family of the Medici. Together the couple had two children: Piero "il Gottoso" and Giovanni.

Elle est la fille d’Alessandro de' Bardi ou, selon d’autres sources, de Giovanni et de Emilia Pannocchieschi de la branche des comtes de Vernio de la famille Bardi.
