The Pied Pipers were a popular singing group in the late 1930s and 1940s. In 1938 two vocal groups (The Three Rhythm Kings & The 4 Esquires) and Jo Stafford (from The Stafford Sisters) merged into one supergroup, vocal octet The Pied Pipers.By late 1939 they were down to a quartet and had several personnel changes through the years.

13 de feb. de 2023 · In 1942 the Pied Pipers broke away from Dorsey, and Huddleston joined the army, to be replaced by Hal Hopper, one of the original eight members. The group backed Johnny Mercer on several tracks during the early 40s, including "Candy" and "Blues in the Night." Their first single ("Deacon Jones"/"Pistol Packin' Mama") was released in 1943.
