Near this spot stood the log cabin birthplace of Belva A Bennett 1830 – 1917. As Belva Lockwood, she became the first woman to practice law before the Supreme Court.

She married Uriah McNall in 1848 when she was 18. Their daughter, Lura, was born in 1850. Uriah McNall died in 1853, leaving Belva to support herself and her daughter.
