Georg Simmel (Berlín, 1 de març de 1858 – Estrasburg, 28 de setembre de 1918) fou un sociòleg alemany. Simmel va estudiar filosofia i història a la Universitat de Berlín . Va obtenir el doctorat el 1881 amb una tesi sobre la monadologia física de Kant i entrà a formar part del cos de professors universitaris el 1885 a la mateixa Universitat de Berlín.
