The 1837 depression causes him to declare bankruptcy and the family loses the Battenville house.

Anthony, (born Feb. 15, 1820, Adams, Mass., U.S.—died March 13, 1906, Rochester, N.Y.), U.S. pioneer in the women’s suffrage movement.A precocious child, she learned to read and write at the age of three. After attending a boarding school in Philadelphia, she took a teaching position in a Quaker seminary in upstate New York.
