It was years ago that I saw Cabaret before but what I remember of the Emcee was a lecherous freak (affectionately) but still human. At the very end of that other production I watched before he did this sort of striptease then reveals a concentration camp uniform underneath then most of the other cast reveal the same and there was some crashing sound that implied them being maybe shot or gassed.
