Johann Georg Leopold Mozart (November 14, 1719 – May 28, 1787) was a German composer, violinist, and theorist. He is best known today as the father and teacher of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and for his violin textbook Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule (1756).

The son of an Augsburg bookbinder, Leopold Mozart matriculated at the Salzburg Benedictine University in 1737 but was expelled in September 1739 for poor attendance and a failure to show proper deference to his professors and the university establishment.
Leopold Mozart was the father of the famous Wolfgang Amadeus. Leopold was a highly skilled violinist and conductor, as well as a proficient composer of symphonies, serenades, and church music. Leopold organized the Mozart family’s extensive concert tours; they traveled all over Europe to perform for royalty and aristocracy.
