The mother died from the operation.

30 de dic. de 2021 · Vivien Leigh In Rebecca. I saw Vivien’s and Joan’s screen tests, and I must say Joan was the better choice to play Rebecca. She was much more vulnerable with her Plain Jane looks which were just right for Max’s wife. Joan had that wholesome, gawky, innocence that perfectly matched Olivier’s overpowering looks and authority.
