To shine -> to reflect light clearly and sharply. To glow -> to emit light, usually softly or weakly, from itself. A glow is always cause by some form of energy.

To "shine a light" is to metaphorically put the spotlight on an issue or subject so that others will notice it, pay more attention to it, and learn more about it. "Shed light" is a related phrase, though that one describes investigating something or learning more about something.

The value of gold declined significantly over the last several decades, but many people speculate that the value of gold will climb sharply over the next year. 1 de nov. de 2007 · My eyes glow/blaze/shine/glitter when I see Susan. Glow would tell me that you have feelings for Susan. Blaze would tell me that you get angry whenever you see her. Shine would tell me that you're happy/excited to see Susan. I wouldn't use glitter here, but that's not to say nobody would. I don't think there is ONE "proper" verb for each context.

I'm not sure how it originates, but you usually use it in this manner: "If you don't stop clicking that pen, I'm going to stick it where the sun don't shine!" Meaning: "I'm going to stick your pen up your ass". (Since no sunlight ever reaches your ass).

"Wakey wakey rise and shine" is common enough in BrE as a way of getting people out of bed, but the need does not often exist with adults, and it is mostly used with children. "Wakey wakey" is common on its own without "rise and shine", but "rise and shine" is a lot less common without "wakey wakey" or some other expression.
