La misión del Estudio de actuación Stella Adler es crear un entorno con el propósito de nutrir a artistas de teatro que valoren la humanidad, la propia tal como la de los demás, como su primera y más preciada prioridad, y al mismo tiempo brindar arte y educación a la comunidad en general.
El «sistema» de Stella Adler anima a los actores a tener tamaño y profundidad de comprensión, y el juicio impide el tamaño. La conciencia consiste en ver algo por lo que es, y no por lo que se siente, y permite al actor trabajar desde un lugar de comprensión, y no desde el sentimiento.
A principios de la década de 1940, comenzó a enseñar actuación en la New School for Social Research en la ciudad de Nueva York. Permaneció allí hasta 1949, cuando fundó el Stella Adler Theatre Studio (más tarde rebautizada como Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting).
