Roger Joseph McGough CBE FRSL (/ m ə ˈ ɡ ɒ f /; born 9 November 1937) is an English poet, performance poet, broadcaster, children's author and playwright. He presents the BBC Radio 4 programme Poetry Please, as well as performing his own poetry.

Poet, playwright, broadcaster, and children’s author Roger McGough was born and raised in Liverpool, England. A prolific writer, he has published more than 50 books of adult and children’s poetry, as well as several plays, including a recent verse adaptation of Molière’s Tartuffe (2008).
Roger McGough has been one of Britain’s most well-loved poets since his work was included in the Penguin anthology, The Mersey Sound: Penguin Modern Poets 10, in 1967, along with the other ‘Liverpool Poets’, Adrian Henri and Brian Patten.
Poet, performer and broadcaster, Roger McGough has published over 100 poetry books for adults and children and has been called ‘the patron saint of poetry’ and ‘the godfather of modern poetry’.
