Early life and high school. McCord grew up in Mount Laurel, New Jersey and attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was teammates with future fellow Buckeye Marvin Harrison Jr. He received his first college scholarship offer from Central Michigan before the start of his freshman year of high school.
