Calling themselves The Shadows, singer Jim Sohns was joined by rhythm guitarist Norm Gotch, lead guitarist Warren Rogers, bassist Wayne Pursell and drummer Tom Schiffour. Later in the year, Pursell departed and was replaced by Joe Kelly.
The original members were Roger Spielmann (guitar), Norm Gotsch (guitar), Wayne Pursell (bass), Tom Shiffour (drums), and Jimy Sohns (vocals). In 1965 Joe Kelly (guitar) replaced Pursell. The Shadows of Knight became the house band at The Cellar in Arlington Heights and began packing the club with over 500 teenagers every time they played.
Other players they knew while attending Mount Prospect High School were added: rhythm guitarist Norm Gotsch, bassist Wayne Pursell and drummer/motorcycle enthusiast Tom Schiffour.
This is Norm Gotsch, one of the original members of The Shadows of Knight. We're being inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame on Sunday, this Sunday, April 14th at the Golden Bears Theater in Temecula, California. I will be reunited with Warren Rogers and Jerry McGeorge.

Norm Gotsch was a founding member of the Shadows of Knight; and along with Warren Rogers, one of the group’s original guitarists. He was responsible for recording the Shadows of Knight live set that makes up this raw ‘n’ alive archival release.
