The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells. It was written between 1895 and 1897, [2] and serialised in Pearson's Magazine in the UK and Cosmopolitan magazine in the US in 1897. The full novel was first published in hardcover in 1898 by William Heinemann.
The Martians want to stay on Earth because Mars in becoming too cold to live on. They use giant tripods as transport and carry a deadly Heat-Ray to burn everybody and everything in their way. How can the humans triumph against the hostile, invincible Martians? Who will win the War of the Worlds?
As the aliens traverse the country in huge three-legged machines, incinerating all in their path with a heat ray and spreading noxious toxic gases, the people of the Earth must come to terms with the prospect of the end of human civilization and the beginning of Martian rule.
