At Chigwell, we pride ourselves on our warm and friendly approach and take time to get to know future pupils and their families well. We are a selective school but we do our best to make the assessment process as comfortable and enjoyable as possible – we want to see applicants at their best.
A Home-From-Home. Boarding at Chigwell is rather different from the traditional model of an English boarding school. We specialise in helping international students adapt happily and securely to living and studying in the UK, and preparing them for successful entry into British universities.

Pupils enter the Senior School in Year 9, although they will have been following a senior school curriculum since the start of Year 7. This is both an exciting and increasingly serious phase as pupils’ development, emotionally and academically, accelerates quickly towards maturity.
The School was formally founded by Samuel Harsnett, Archbishop of York and Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University. It then had 16 ‘poor scholars’. The original school building, known as “Big School”, was in what now houses the Swallow Library.
