The History of CAN. CAN - Biography. June 2011 marked the 43rd anniversary of the founding of Can when Holger Czukay (bass), David Johnson (flute), jazz drummer Jaki Liebezeit and beat guitar player Michael Karoli met in classical conductor and piano player Irmin Schmidt's Cologne apartment in 1968.
I saw Michael Karoli with the Damo Suzuki Band in Seattle, at the concert that is on the cd's. I never got to meet Michael, he was of a very profound spirit, and beyond anything anyone else could do. Michael tamed this wlld band, part modern dance, part noise, and produced great music in the process.

Stylistically, the music consists of long tunes constructed very loosely, with Suzuki’s unusual vocals, often supplemented by effects, very emotional and rarely intelligible.
