We embrace the arts as a means of transformation, self-actualization, and mindful engagement with the world. History and Enrollment After touching the lives of over 1000 students for 14 years, as the DeKalb Center for Performing Arts (DCPA), the magnet program housed at Avondale High School was expanded to a stand-alone high school in 1999.
DeKalb School of the Arts began in 1985 under the direction of Richard Leitgeb and became the DeKalb Center for the Performing Arts, a magnet program housed at Avondale High School. In 1999 it was established as a separate entity and became the DeKalb School of the Arts, and in 2002 it moved into the former Briarcliff High School .
