1976–1982. The Slits formed in 1976 when Ari Up went to a Patti Smith gig. After having an argument with her mother, Ari was approached by Palmolive and Kate Korris with the offer to form a band. The next day they had their first rehearsal.
Guitar-wielding expatriate American Kate Korus (real name Katherine Corris) was a founding member of The Slits, who at the time had more enthusiasm for just being a group than for actually playing anything approaching music, so she left early on, “determined never, ever, to be with a group who didn’t know what they were doing”.
8 de mar. de 2024 · Up was unafraid to be totally herself – she was often loud, vulgar, bratty and reckless – which was precisely what the band needed. The lineup initially featured Up, Palmolive, Suzy Gutsy and Kate Korus, before the latter two were soon replaced by Tessa Pollitt and Albertine, respectively.
15 de abr. de 2018 · Guitarist Kate Korus hailed from an early lineup of The Slits. Drummer June Kingston went on to play behind Fun Boy Three , Everything but the Girl , and sing backup for Big Country , Microdisney , and The Woodentops .
