A Porter-Gaud education offers students rigorous academics in the core areas of study - English, Math, Science, History, and World Languages (including Chinese, Spanish, Latin, and French) - and an array of opportunities in religion, the arts, technology, and the humanities.
Porter-Gaud begins working with prospective families as early as September and October for admission for the following fall. The deadline for our Annual Decision Round is typically in early February, and this is the point at which applicants have the best chance for admission as many of our grades become fully-enrolled for the coming year.
In 1874 the school was renamed the Porter Military Academy and soon moved onto the grounds of a former Federal Arsenal. In 1964, the school moved to its present location, merged with the Gaud School and Watt School, and became Porter-Gaud School. The Civil War wreaked havoc on Charleston.
