Michael Tubridy – The Chieftains. Joined: 1962 Left: 1979. Michael, a native of Kilrush, County Clare, was known for his talents on the flute, tin whistle, and the concertina, an instrument common to his native County Clare.
The Chieftains are a traditional Irish folk band formed in Dublin in 1962, by Paddy Moloney, Seán Potts and Michael Tubridy. Their sound, which is almost entirely instrumental and largely built around uilleann pipes, has become synonymous with traditional Irish music. They are regarded as having helped popularise Irish music around the world.

He was a member of Ceoltoirí Chualann, led by Seán Ó Riada, and was a founder member of The Chieftains. He also played with the Castle Céilí Band.
