7 de oct. de 2021 · Hard Bop: The 10 Essential Albums. Thursday, October 7, 2021. Hard bop emerged in the 1950s, spearheaded by the likes of Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Art Blakey, Jackie McLean and Sonny Rollins, who between them made some outstanding albums that still resonate loudly today.
A Night at Birdland, Vols. 1–3 are three separate but related 10" LPs by the Art Blakey Quintet recorded live at the Birdland jazz club on February 21, 1954, and released on Blue Note later that year, in July, October and November respectively. The quintet features horn section Clifford Brown and Lou Donaldson and rhythm section Horace Silver, Curly Russell and Blakey.
Clifford Brown, Donaldson, pianist Horace Silver, bassist Curly Russell, and drummer Blakey certainly make for a very potent group on this bebop-oriented set with Brown being showcased on “Once In A While” and in inspired form on such numbers as “A Night In Tunisia,”The Way You Look Tonight,” “Wee Dot,” and “Confirmation.”
7 de sept. de 2021 · Blakey is accompanied by trumpet prodigy Clifford Brown (who was tragically killed in a car accident two years after this recording), Lou Donaldson on alto, Horace Silver piano and Curley (aka Curly) Russell on bass. It’s regarded by many as one of Blakey’s best line-ups.

Release history. Volumes 1 and 2 were issued on CD in 1987 with new artwork based on the original ten-inches and two additional tracks each: an alternate take of "Wee-Dot" and an improvisational piece titled "Blues" on Volume 1, and "The Way You Look Tonight" and "Lou's Blues" on Volume 2—issued as side's one and two of the 12" A Night at Birdland, Vol. 3 released by Toshiba three years ...
