Newcombe (nacido el 29 de agosto de 1967) comenzó en los años 80 grabando con un proyecto llamado Homeland. Más tarde creó The Brian Jonestown Massacre, nombre derivado de Brian Jones, el miembro de los Rolling Stones cuya imagen aparece en su logo.
