The original lineup was a trio composed of José Roberto Bertrami ( keyboards ), Alex Malheiros ( bass, guitars ), and Ivan Conti ( drums, percussion ). [1] . Kiko Continentino joined the group in 2015 as the band's keyboardist after Bertrami's death.

Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk trio formed in 1973. The original band members were the now late Jose Roberto Bertrami, plus Alex Malheiros, and Ivan Conti.
Best known as the keyboardist and bandleader of legendary trio Azymuth, the late José Roberto Bertami also wrote for, arranged for and performed with Elis Regina, George Duke, Sarah Vaughn, Jorge Ben, Eddie Palmieri, Milton Nascimento, Flora Purim and Erasmo Carlos, among countless others.
José Roberto Bertrami, as producer, chief writer, and keyboardist for Azymuth, has a great deal to do with the Brazilian trio’s unique sound. He strikes out in a somewhat different direction, however, on his own Milestone solo debut, Blue Wave.
