Sammy Angott (January 17, 1915 – October 22, 1980) was born Salvatore Engotti in a Pittsburgh area town in Pennsylvania. He was known as a clever boxer who liked to follow up a clean punch by grabbing his opponent, causing him to be known as "The Clutch."

Meanwhile, Montgomery was busily throwing punches and piling up points. Angott was popular with the audience; that and a big rally in rounds eight and nine brought him the win.

On November 13, 1942, Angott announced that he was retiring from boxing due to a broken right hand that failed to heal properly.
Sammy Angott was a lightweight champion who fought seven Hall of Famers, including Sugar Ray Robinson and Willie Pep. He won the N.B.A. title twice and the world featherweight title once, but lost to Juan Zurita in 1944.
