Wolfgang "Maxe" Steinbach (born 21 September 1954) is a German former football player and manager who spent most of his career playing for 1. FC Magdeburg in the DDR-Oberliga. At international level, he made 28 appearances for the East Germany national team scoring one goal. In 2006, he was elected Best 1.

Forward Wolfgang Steinbach was on the final East German football (soccer) squad at the 1980 Moskva Olympics that won the silver medal after losing the final against Czechoslovakia 1-0. In total, he earned 28 international caps, scoring one goal and six more with the GDR Olympic team.
