In 2012, Atheist & Agnostic Alliance Pakistan was founded by Fauzia Ilyas. It was the first public atheist and non-religious organization in a country with Islam as its state religion. Ilyas and her co-founder, Sayed Gillani, married and fled the country after their identities were revealed in 2015.
