Tom Savini is a legendary SFX artist and director who created the iconic zombie and splatter effects in films like Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He also appeared in many horror movies, such as From Dusk Till Dawn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and wrote a book on his craft.
Early life. Savini was born on November 3, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is of Italian descent. [3] He was raised Catholic and graduated from Central Catholic High School. As a boy, his inspiration was actor Lon Chaney Sr., and Savini attributes his earliest desires to create makeup effects to Chaney and the film Man of a Thousand Faces.
