Cuando la banda ya se llamaba Atrocity, comenzó siendo una banda de death metal melódico. Su debut discográfico se dio en 1989 con el EP Blue Blood, seguido de un álbum conceptual sobre el uso de drogas llamado Hallucinations. Su segundo álbum, Todessehnsucht ("Hambre de muerte"), los depositó directamente en el death metal.
First started in 1985 as Instigators and playing grindcore, Atrocity arose as a death metal band with their debut EP, Blue Blood, in 1989, followed soon by Hallucinations, a concept album about drug use.

Atrocity. Not to be confused with Atrocity from Bamberg, Bavaria (changed their name to Atrocity Exhibition ). The band originally played grindcore under the name Instigator. Upon changing their name to Atrocity, they changed to a death metal sound, as heard in 1990's Hallucinations and 1992's Todessehnsucht.
