Pierre Magnol (8 June 1638 – 21 May 1715) [1] [2] was a French botanist. He was born in the city of Montpellier, where he lived and worked for most of his life. He became Professor of Botany and Director of the Royal Botanic Garden of Montpellier and held a seat in the Académie Royale des Sciences de Paris for a short while.

Pierre Magnol (en occità Pèire Manhòl) ( Montpeller, 8 de juny de 1638 - Montpeller, 21 de maig de 1715) va ser un botànic occità. Fill d'un apotecari, s'apassionà per la història natural i en particular per la botànica. El 1659 obté el doctorat en medicina a la Universitat de Montpeller.
He received his Bachelor's degree 28 August 1657. On 1 August 1658 he recieved his licentiate. 11 January 1659 he obtained his M.D. After receiving his degree he made a serious study of plants. 5. Religion. Affiliation: Calvinist, Catholic. In 1664 he was proposed for the position of demonstrator of plants.
