Robert Bruce, 1st Earl of Ailesbury (later styled Aylesbury) and 2nd Earl of Elgin, PC, FRS (ca. March 1626 – 20 October 1685), was a Scottish politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1663, when he inherited his father's title as Earl of Elgin.

This fashionably dressed young sitter is Robert, Lord Bruce, the only child and heir of the Scottish nobleman Thomas Bruce, 1st Earl of Elgin. As a boy Bruce received little formal education, but in his teens travelled to Europe becoming one of the first Scots to embark on the Grand Tour.

On 18 March 1664, Robert Bruce, 2nd Earl of Elgin in the Peerage of Scotland was created Baron Bruce, of Skelton in the County of York, Viscount Bruce, of Ampthill in the County of Bedford, and Earl of Ailesbury, in the County of Buckingham, all in the Peerage of England.
