William Fife Knowland (June 26, 1908 – February 23, 1974) was an American politician and newspaper publisher. A member of the Republican Party, he served as a United States Senator from California from 1945 to 1959.

A fierce anti-communist, Knowland strongly supported Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist China. But his most notable accomplishment came with floor management of the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Knowland did not seek a third Senate term in 1958, choosing instead to run for governor.
Bill Knowland took an honorable discharge and rushed to Washington to be sworn in. He assumed his seat on August 26 and, the next year, won the election for a full six-year term. Humorless and "bullheaded," Knowland built his reputation on his role in post-war foreign policy.
