2 de abr. de 2024 · The site of ancient Ohlone Indian shell mounds, it became part of Rancho San Pablo, settled by Francisco Castro in 1823. Ferry service was established to San Francisco in 1900 when Point Richmond became the western terminus of the Santa Fe Railway. The city was home to a large winery in the early 1900s until Prohibition forced its closure.
When Richmond incorporated as a city in 1905 it had a population of 2,150 and was already an established industrial town. The city charter was adopted in 1909, and by 1910 the town numbered 7,500. As the City grew during the 1920s and the 1930s, Richmond’s Downtown emerged as the City’s business and retail center.
Richmond fue originalmente parte de Rancho San Pablo, un rancho de la era mexicana concedido a Francisco María Castro en 1823 y reconfirmado a su hijo Don Víctor Castro, un destacado Californio ranchero y político (impuesto), en 1834. Los Ohlone fueron los primeros habitantes del área de Richmond y se establecieron hace aproximadamente 5000 años.
Es mayormente conocida por albergar a Richmond High School, preparatoria donde se ambienta la película Coach Carter. En 2020 se calculó que la población era de 116,448 personas.
