Rationality is rather determined by the biological and social conditions in which the lives of human beings are embedded (p. 7).
Philosophical anthropology marks a departure from the kind of enquiry in which the basic categories are set out in advance and material is then assimilated to them, for it is directed against a fundamental assumption of metaphysical treatments, that there is a fixed human nature—implicitly typified in early-modern Christians—which can be examined in conceptual or a priori terms.
