Nelson Riddle, der als Posaunist seine Musikerlaufbahn begann, war einer der herausragenden US-amerikanischen Bigband-Arrangeure der 1950er und 1960er Jahre. "The Joy Of Living" (1959) and "A Game of Poker" (1962) are two of Riddle's arrangements for orchestra in the late '50a and early 60s. Both bear the influence of the Henry Mancini albums of that era: jazz-inflected, titled toward Big Band, but with strings and winds used melodically and often humorously.
