Leben. Elliott Gould wuchs in einer jüdischen Familie in Brooklyn auf. Bereits im Kindesalter spielte er an Vaudeville-Bühnen und im Fernsehen.Er machte seinen Schulabschluss an der Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. Nach seiner Zeit am College gab er 1956 sein Debüt am Broadway in dem Musical Rumple.Danach folgten weitere kleinere Musical-Rollen – wie etwa in Irma La Douce.
Elliott Gould 1938. augusztus 29 -én született Bernard Goldstein és Lucille Raver gyermekeként. Főiskolai tanulmányait a Columbia Egyetemen végezte. Karrierje kezdetén liftesfiú majd porszívóügynök volt. Ezután Barbra Streisand menedzsere lett. 1957 –től a Broadway -n játszott. 1960-ban az Irma, te édes! című filmben szerepelt.

Conegut per haver interpretat el capità John Mc Intyre al film M*A*S*H o el pare de Ross i Monica a 20 episodis de la sèrie Friends i per haver interpretat el personatge de Reuben Tishkoff als films Ocean's Eleven , Ocean's Twelve i Ocean's Thirteen .

La madre vendeva fiori artificiali ai saloni di bellezza, mentre il padre era nel settore dell'abbigliamento come acquirente di tessuti. Si diplomò alla Professional Children's School, una piccola scuola nel distretto di Manhattan.
