The autograph for this work was contained in the manuscript for Studies and Novelettes, but Hartmann expressly stated that he wanted the 2 pieces copied into a separate album. Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann (14 May 1805 – 10 March 1900) was, together with his son-in-law Niels W. Gade, the leading Danish composer of the 19th century, a period known as the Danish Golden Age. According to Alfred Einstein, he was "the real founder of the Romantic movement in Denmark and even in all Scandinavia".
Johann Peter Emilius Hartmann (né à Copenhague le 14 mai 1805 - mort dans la même ville le 10 mars 1900) est un compositeur danois.Avec son gendre Niels W. Gade, il est une figure centrale de l'âge d'or danois.Selon Alfred Einstein, Hartmann est dans le domaine musical «le véritable fondateur du romantisme danois, et même du romantisme scandinave tout entier» [1].
