Irving Lee Dorsey was an American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s. His biggest hits were "Ya Ya" and "Working in the Coal Mine". Much of his work was produced by Allen Toussaint, with instrumental backing provided by the Meters.

At a time when the prime audience for the music were teenagers and many of the performers were not much older than that themselves, Dorsey first broke through in 1961 at the comparatively advanced age of 36.

Dorsey collaborated with artists such as James Brown, the Beatles and Fats Domino. Born in New Orleans, Dorsey served in the Navy during World War II and was an undefeated lightweight boxer who went by the name Kid Chocolate.
