The school is the oldest high-school in the Caribbean, being established in 1729 by John Wolmer.
In 2004 Wolmer’s Preparatory School began a Special Education Department accommodating students, labeled as slow learners, to benefit from a Special Education Resource Room Pull-Out Programme. The programme was geared toward removing students from mainstream classes intermittently, utilizing and implementing remedial instruction to reinforce and strengthen the students’ weaknesses.

This was the day JOHN WOLMER made his last Will and Testament by which he left the bulk of his estate for the foundation of a free school in the parish in which he should happen to die. The sum of the legacy was 2,360 pounds sterling.
