Meet John Doe The film was released in the spring of 1941, three months after the American entry into World War II. The dangers of a complacent nation being manipulated and taken over by Fascism and Hitler's Third Reich were a possibility at the time and through his film Capra provided a model for the ordinary “John Doe” to live by amidst these larger than life threats.
As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed "John Doe," who threatens suicide in protest of social ills. The paper is forced to rehire Ann and hires John Willoughby to impersonate "Doe." Ann and her bosses cynically milk the story for all it's worth, until the made-up "John Doe" philosophy starts a whole political movement.
5 de dic. de 2004 · Meet John Doe is one of the best films ever! Cabra is brilliant; this one is right up there with my favorite movie, It's A Wonderful Life. All the actors did a fine job. Barbara Stanwyck is amazing here, as she is in all her films.
