5 de abr. de 2016 · When Omaha Technical High School opened in 1923, it was the largest school west of Chicago and with state-of-the-art supplies, it was said to be the best equipped in the country. After graduating thousands of students over 60 years, the school was closed in 1984.
The school district was required to submit a “comprehensive plan” by January 1, 1976, providing a fair integration ratio of Black to White students and faculty while fulfilling the court’s guidelines. It would then be implemented that fall. Omaha World-Herald, June 13, 1975.
22 de may. de 2017 · At the same meeting, a new six-room Minne Lusa School was approved, and the new Commercial High building changed names and was to be called “Omaha Technical High School” instead. In early 1922, the Omaha-based architecture firm of John Latenser and Sons was selected to design the school, which was originally supposed to cost $750,000 to build.

During the 1870s, a one-room school was built at 2410 North 19th Street. Rebuilt in 1888, it was called Lake School , and by early 1910s, it had become one of Omaha’s black schools.

The Sunday Omaha World-Herald, May 13, 1923, said that Technical High was the most complete and well planned technical school in the United States. The new school opened on October 15, 1923, with nearly 2,400 pupils. By 1940 enrollment had reached 3,684. The building was touted as the first air conditioned building in Omaha. Unfortunately, the
